Benfica defender, Jan Vertonghen has lavished praise on to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool-linked centre-back, Antonio Silva.

The ‘superstar’ Portuguese international, who could cost a cool fee of £71-£80 million according to Fabrizio Romano via Football Transfers has reportedly been targeted by both Premier League clubs. Of course, both sides are also in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, with both backlines leaking goals for fun this season.

Well, both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool will rejoice upon discovering that Jan Vertonghen, who was once regarded as one of the finest defenders in the English top-flight is a huge fan of Antonio Silva.

The 19-year-old, whose contract at Benfica expires in 2027 is one of Europe’s most coveted young centre-halves, destined to reach the absolute top of the game in a few years’ time, with pundits such as Jamie Carragher and John Murray in awe of him.

Now, Jan Vertonghen has given his verdict on Tottenham and Liverpool target Antonio Silva whilst initially praising teammate Nicolas Otamendi in an interview with CNN Portugal.

“Otamendi is making a wonderful time. At his age, he remains very physically and mentally important, and a key player in the team. He is a true leader, as demonstrated at the World Cup.”

“At the beginning of the season, he started playing with Morato, who is a very good player but then because of the injuries, they had to put the kid [into the team], Antonio Silva but the boy will be a legend. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing, he has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world in a year or two”, Jan Vertonghen said about Tottenham and Liverpool-linked starlet, Antonio Silva.

Tottenham and Liverpool should perhaps take the verdict from the Spurs legend on Antonio Silva seriously, considering he knew a thing or two about keeping attackers quiet in his pomp to say the least.
