Napoli and Juventus have reportedly joined the race for Benfica wonderkid Antonio Silva, with Liverpool and Tottenham also being linked with a move for the Portuguese centre-back.

According to A Bola, the Italian giants are both interested in the teenage defender, who this year has been one of the breakout talents in Europe as Silva has established himself as a regular for an unbeaten Benfica side as well as making his international debut for Portugal.

Starting against South Korea at the 2022 FIFA World Cup earlier this week, Silva is tipped for a huge future, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher already tipping the 19-year-old to become a ‘superstar’ after a sensational few months for the youngster.

With A Bola previously reporting that a €60m (£52m) offer has already been made for Silva by an unnamed English club, interest is skyrocketing for the Benfica talent. And with the January transfer window just around the window, Liverpool and Tottenham will likely be joined by more rival teams in the chase for the defender.

Indeed, Napoli and Juventus eyeing Silva is already a big problem for the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, with Serie A arguably a better destination for the defender than the Premier League given the nature of the Italian top-flight.

However, one thing Serie A sides won’t be able to offer is the financial demands Benfica are looking for in Silva, something that Liverpool or Tottenham could provide if either Premier League giant is willing to make a big investment in the teenage defender.

Silva’s 2022 has been nothing short of meteoric. With the defender going from academy football to starting a World Cup fixture in the span of 12 months. And given how Benfica operate, a Premier League offer will be what it takes to sell the wonderkid in 2023.

Whilst Serie A might be better for the centre-back’s development, the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are some of the only clubs in Europe who will be willing and able to afford Silva, who could soon become one of the best centre-backs in the world if he continues to develop at his current pace.
