Juanma Lillo has raved about Antonio Silva in The Athletic amid speculation linking the defender with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester City assistant manager believes that Silva, on the radar of Liverpool and Tottenham, is an incredible defender.

The Al Sadd head coach has been impressed by how the 19-year-old Benfica defender has done for Portugal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Portugal have qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition and will face Morocco for a place in the last four.

GiveMeSport reported in November that Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte wants to sign Silva from Benfica.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside that Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in the teenager.

Lillo said about Silva: “And then Portugal… the young centre-back from Benfica, Antonio Silva, is not even playing. Do you know how good this kid is? Incredible. He’s absurd.”

Could a transfer happen in January?

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool are unlikely to be able to sign Andre Silva from Benfica in the January transfer window.

Yes, Benfica do tend to sell their best players, but they are aiming to win the Portuguese league title this season and are unlikely to part company with any of their best players in the middle of the campaign.

If Tottenham and Liverpool are to sign Silva, then it is very likely that they will have to wait until the summer of 2023.
