There have been more outgoings than incomings for Newcastle United this summer.
Just 12 months ago, Eddie Howe guided the club to Champions League football and many inside Newcastle were excited by the prospect of what was to come.
But the Saudi-led ownership couldn’t flex their financial muscle as well as they would have liked and history seems to be repeating itself.
The current Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP) have been deemed ‘anti-competitive’ by Aston Villa’s co-owner Nassef Sawiris – and Newcastle fans have every right to be screaming that from the rooftops now.
You feel these next 12 months are a bit of a crossroads for the Magpies because of all the noise surrounding the club.
Amanda Staveley and her partner Mehrdad Ghodoussi have left, which leaves a big hole in the boardroom because they were paramount to the club reaching the elite level.
Whilst Eddie Howe continues to be linked with the vacant England manager’s job – sources have told HITC that England favourite Howe wouldn’t turn down an approach from the FA.
Then you look on the pitch and another individual who has been significant for Newcastle post-Mike Ashley has been Kieran Trippier.
But there are now suggestions he would leave, which left recently departed West Ham coach Kevin Nolan perplexed.
Jamie O’Hara told Nolan that ‘Newcastle are willing to sell Trippier this summer, he is attracting interest from AC Milan, as well as clubs in Turkey, whilst Bayern Munich remain admirers’
Nolan responded with surprise, but questioned if all of this is being done because of PSR and FFP, as he told talkSPORT (24/07/24 at 6:35 am).
Kieran Trippier to leave Newcastle United
“I know lads who know him and playing against him and getting to know him that way,” said Nolan. “He has been fantastic serving for the clubs he has played for.
“When he went to Spain, he was one of the first to go abroad from this current England side and do really well by having success, then come to Newcastle and have the success that he has.
“It’s very surprising. Homegrown comes into it. He is someone who probably has a nice price tag that would suit Newcastle getting the full amount of money, so when it comes to the FFP stuff it’s not a surprise.”

Kieran Trippier in the dressing room
The issue Newcastle have here is that, if Trippier leaves, they will probably end up missing him more in the dressing room than on the pitch.
But, on the other, if they get money in for him, then it’s all about who they can get in.

Sources have told HITC that Newcastle have opened talks for Federico Chiesa.
Whilst, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson hold talks over a Saudi Arabia double deal, sources can confirm.
If these experienced heads leave and several fresh new names enter, then Newcastle fans will start to feel a little bit more positive.
