HITC understands that Newcastle United have held talks with the Saudi Pro League over deals for Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson.

Both players have been informed that they can find new clubs this summer as they cannot be guaranteed first-team action going forward.

Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson are both open to leaving St James’ Park this summer and to the prospect of moving to the Middle East.

HITC understands Newcastle United would ideally like both players to head to Saudi as it is the best option to generate profit and cover their wages in full – something that would be tough to repeat elsewhere.

However, HITC understands that there is also interest in both players from the MLS and clubs in Europe.

There are clubs in Spain and Italy keen on signing Almiron, but his new contract with Newcastle means that his wages could be a stumbling block.

Almiron extended his stay in Tyneside in 2023 by signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Callum Wilson attracts Premier League interest

Alongside interest from Saudi Arabia and MLS, there are several English clubs also keeping tabs on Wilson’s situation at Newcastle.

However, the 32-year-old is one of the best-paid players at St James’ Park on a salary well over £100,000 per week.

Wilson would prefer a multi-year contract should he sign for a new club but his current wages makes a move to another English club difficult.

West Ham are understood to retain an interest in Wilson but they are concerned by his long-term injury concerns and would not be willing to pay a huge fee for his signature.

HITC understands Wilson’s former club Bournemouth, Leicester City and Fulham are also keeping tabs on his situation as he considers his future.

Wilson played second fiddle to Alexander Isak at Newcastle last season but still ended the campaign with 10 goals to his name across all competitions.

With Newcastle looking to upgrade on their frontline this summer, a move away from the North East looks best for all parties.
