Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT (26/06/21 at 6:55 am) that he feels Antonio Conte was the one Daniel Levy wanted at Tottenham all along.
The former striker has suggested that Tottenham ‘probably thought’ they had their man when Jose Mourinho was sacked.
But, for one reason or another, the road they wanted to go down, in regards to nabbing Conte, didn’t go as planned.
Conte, 51, was a name mentioned during the early stages of Tottenham’s managerial hunt, but the ex-Inter boss was soon off that list.
It’s now been over two months since Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho and Cascarino shares how things just ‘don’t add up’ in the North London boardroom.
“I would like to think that they probably thought they had their man when they let Jose go,” said Cascarino.
“And they had to bide a bit of time, but that didn’t materialise. It might have been Conte.
“It doesn’t add up. The Puzzle doesn’t fit how Tottenham haven’t worked out a solution and found a manager.
“Now, you are getting into a position where it’s a too late stage. It has got to happen soon.”

This is where it starts to get embarrassing for Spurs because pre-season is around the corner and they don’t have anyone to take the reigns.
Ryan Mason, who took charge towards the back end of last season, might be the one planning for the new season.
If that’s the case then it will just prove the utter mess Spurs have made of their managerial search.
Given the situation Spurs are in, and the time they have taken to appoint a new coach, the new man walking through their doors has to be a crowd-pleaser because these frustrated fans need lifting.
