It’s fair to say that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone isn’t flavour of the month around Anfield right now.

Fears spreading

Therefore, reports in Marca claiming that he is fearful that Liverpool will take their foot off the gas tonight, are not generating much sympathy on Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are set to take on Porto this evening in a game that they would typically be expected to win.

However, with the Reds’ progress to the knockout secure, Klopp is now set to rest key players.

That leaves Atletico’s future in the competition in real doubt – as they have struggled this season.

If Porto beat Liverpool, and Atleti do not pick up three points against AC Milan later then they will be eliminated.

And Liverpool supporters are almost unanimously hoping that Simeone’s apparent fears come true this evening.

Why do Liverpool fans dislike Simeone?

Well, where do we begin?

Liverpool and Atleti have met in both of the last two editions of the Champions League and Simeone hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory in either contest.

The Argentine most recently didn’t shake Jurgen Klopp’s hand at full-time, which created huge controversy.

Simeone’s antics on the touchline have also seen him receive great criticism from Liverpool supporters.

If Atleti were to bow out of the competition it would be a huge upset, though.

The side from the Spanish capital were among the favourites to reach the latter stages, but after being drawn in a tough group they have only collected four points from four games to date.
