Tony Mowbray and Shefki Kuqi – both of whom have ties to Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town – are among the leading contenders to succeed Mick McCarthy.

The Ipswich Town manager’s job is a three-horse race involving the bosses of Blackburn Rovers and Lincoln City, as well as former Tractor Boys striker Shefki Kuqi, according to Sky Bet’s latest odds.
Kuqi (3/1) and Blackburn’s Tony Mowbray (5/2) – another ex-Ipswich player – narrowly trail Lincoln’s Danny Cowley (15/8) at this early stage, just hours after Mick McCarthy’s departure – effective from the summer – was confirmed by Town.

Former Derby County manager Steve McClaren (8/1) – who is Ipswich’s number one target according to the Sun on Sunday – is next in the betting, ahead of VVV Venlo’s Maurice Steijn and Colchester United’s John McGreal – a one-time centre-back partner of Mowbray at Portman Road.
Of those, Mowbray could be the hardest to snare, having led Blackburn to third in League One – within two points of leaders Shrewsbury Town, on whom they have a game in hand.
Some Leeds United fans already have their eye on McCarthy, after news of the 58-year-old’s exit broke.
