McCarthy, a boyhood Leeds United fan, will leave Ipswich Town this summer.

Some Leeds United supporters are already calling for Mick McCarthy’s appointment as manager – hours after his departure was announced by Ipswich Town.
McCarthy will however remain at Portman Road until the summer, when his contract expires.
The 59-year-old has admitted on numerous occasions to being a boyhood Leeds fan, with an affection too for hometown team, Barnsley – who were four divisions below at the time.
He has since insisted however that he only has eyes for Barnsley – although that didn’t stop current Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom moving between the two in February.

Things have not gone quite to plan for Heckingbottom however, with the Whites recording one win in eight attempts under the 40-year-old.
And McCarthy, who has led Ipswich to three top-half finishes (including one in the play-offs) on a limited budget, would be a popular replacement it seems.
Here’s what Leeds fans are saying on Twitter…
