Aston Villa were one of the busiest Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window and that trend could continue in 2025.
The 2024/25 season will see Aston Villa return to Europe’s biggest table as they embark on their Champions League journey.
In preparation for their European return, Unai Emery’s side brought in a number of new faces this summer in an attempt to bolster the Villans squad.
Amadou Onana joined Villa for a record £50m, meanwhile, highly rated full-back Ian Maatsen arrived from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
There were also a number of high-profile departures during the window with the likes of Moussa Diaby, Douglas Luiz and Cameron Archer all departing Villa Park.
One star Villa managed to keep a hold of, is academy graduate Jacob Ramsey – that however could soon change in 2025 as a new club enters the race to sign the midfielder.

Inter Milan eye-up Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey
The 23-year-old was the subject of much transfer speculation during the summer, with top-four rivals Spurs having a cash-plus player offer rejected by Villa.
Unai Emery’s side insisted the midfielder would remain at Villa Park for the upcoming campaign but with the academy graduate seemingly falling down the pecking order since his injury last season – Villa could be tempted into a sale as a new club circles for his signature.
That is because Inter Milan are said to be targeting a move for Ramsey, with the Italian champions said to be eyeing up a transfer in 2025.
The report from InterLive. It, states Simone Inzaghi’s are lining up a move for the Villa man as a Henrikh Mkhitaryan replacement, with the 35-year-old nearing the end of his playing days.
Inter are reportedly willing to offer £29.5m to secure the services of the midfielder but Villa would likely want more for their academy graduate.
Should Aston Villa cash in on Ramsey?
As more clubs grow interested in Ramsey, it begs the question as to whether Villa should sell the 23-year-old.
Having come through the Villa academy, a Ramsey sale would net the club pure profit which could massively help their recent PSR struggles.
With that being said though, it is worth taking a closer look at the stats and seeing if Villa would impacted from selling the midfielder.
| Stats per 90 | Minutes | Progressive passes | Progressive carries | Key passes | Passes completed | Tackles + interceptions |
| Jacob Ramsey | 971 | 2.87 | 3.99 | 1.2 | 28.27 | 1.95 |
| Youri Tielemans | 1795 | 6.62 | 1.3 | 1.15 | 42.92 | 3.36 |
| Ross Barkley | 2516 | 5.62 | 1.68 | 1.47 | 42.89 | 2.5 |
When comparing Ramsey to Villa’s other central midfielders, it is clear that the 23-year-old provides Emery’s side with something Tielemans and Barkley do not.
Despite not being too involved in build-up play, Ramsey provides Villa with elite ball-carrying ability, driving his team up the pitch with his top-notch dribbling.
If the Villians were to let Ramsey go, they may see a downturn in their ability to carry the ball up the pitch and enter the final third.
