Since Tottenham signed Djed Spence back in July, he has barely been used by Antonio Conte.

The 22-year-old has only played one minute of Premier League football so far this season, as the Italian prefers Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty ahead of the England Under-21 international.

That begs the question, why did Conte even sign him?

Spence is surely incredibly frustrated at his situation in north London, and if a rumour coming from Tottenham is true, he will become even more annoyed.

Tottenham eye more competition for Djed Spence

Well, according to Jornal de Notícias, Tottenham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon right wing-back Pedro Porro.

The Spain international performed superbly against Spurs in both Champions League games against the north Londoners in Group D, as Sporting Lisbon recorded a 2-0 win and then a 1-1 draw in N17.

Spence is already finding it hard enough to dislodge Emerson and Doherty in the pecking order, so he would surely be furious if another option arrived in that department.

The Tottenham No.24 was not even given a single second of action in the Champions League, and his chances of playing time in the Carabao Cup are over after Nottingham Forest recently knocked Spurs out.

Tottenham must make Djed Spence decision

Even if Porro is not signed, Tottenham need to make their minds up on Spence.

The London-born defender is too good to be sitting on the bench, so Conte either needs to start using him more often, or loan him out somewhere.

It was unfair to stunt Spence’s development following a superb campaign at Nottingham Forest last season, and the longer Conte ignores the youngster, the more agitated he will become at Hotspur Way.

If Porro does arrive in N17, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Spence hand in a transfer request at Tottenham.
