Tottenham are interested in signing Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon – a player who Jermaine Jenas told Antonio Conte to buy back in October.

That is according to Jornal de Notícias, who believe Spurs have taken an interest in the Spain international following his excellent performances against them in the Champions League.

Tottenham want Pedro Porro

Well, the 23-year-old played 90 minutes in both Group D games against Tottenham as Sporting Lisbon managed to avoid defeat to the north Londoners, winning 2-0 in Portugal before drawing 1-1 in N17.

After Spurs lost 2-0 to Sporting Lisbon, Jenas said the following while on commentary duty for BT Sport.

“There’s a lot of talented players in the team, but if there was one I could take from this team it would be Porro. He is different class.”

Now, Conte and Fabio Paratici are seemingly on the same page as Jenas, with Jornal de Notícias claiming that Tottenham are following the Spaniard.

However, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested.

The Portuguese news outlet add that Sporting Lisbon will not entertain offers worth less than €45m (£39m).

Therefore, Tottenham will have to make one of the most expensive signings in their history if they are to bring Porro to north London.

Tottenham need Pedro Porro

Even if it takes a significant sum of money, Tottenham need to sign Porro.

Conte’s system relies heavily on wing-backs playing a starring role, but the Italian’s right-back department is a very weak area.

Emerson Royal continues to struggle despite being given countless opportunities, while Djed Spence has strangely been left in the cold since his summer move from Middlesbrough.

Matt Doherty has performed well when called upon, but Spurs could certainly do with an outstanding option in that area who will play – and shine – on a weekly basis.

Porro is doing just that in a right wing-back role for Sporting Lisbon, so if he can maintain his form, it might tempt Tottenham to submit a significant bid in 2023.
