France icon David Trezeguet believes Adrien Rabiot can be an important player at Juventus after his strong World Cup. But Tottenham Hotspur lead Arsenal for his transfer in January.

Rabiot helped Les Bleus make the final of Qatar 2022 after holding an instrumental role in Didier Deschamps’ system. The 35-cap midfielder started five of his six appearances across France’s seven fixtures. He only missed their semi-final win over Morocco due to an illness.

Deschamps also saw Rabiot drag France in front in their opening Group D tie with Australia after falling 1-0 behind. The 27-year-old headed home an equaliser in the 27th minute and soon fed Olivier Giroud (32’). They were Rabiot’s only goal involvements over Qatar 2022.

Tottenham lead Arsenal for Rabiot’s transfer from Juventus in January

Goals and assists were a key part of Rabiot’s game for Juventus before flying to the Middle East for the World Cup, as well. He netted three and created a further two in his final five Serie A games before Qatar 2022. The midfielder had not given any in his earlier six games.

Yet Rabiot has an uncertain future at Juventus, while clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham are keen on his transfer. The France star is out of contract at the end of the season, so he may leave in January. But Calciomercato.it cites a €20m (£17.5m) price tag for a winter transfer.

The Italian publication also adds that Rabiot’s agent/mother, Veronique, is asking Juventus to increase his salary in any new deal. He currently makes €7m-a-year (£118k-a/w) before bonuses but is seeking €10m-a-year (£168k-a/w). That figure is too rich for the Bianconeri.

Tottenham are keen, though, and Corriere dello Sport reports Spurs are the frontrunner to sign Rabiot from Juventus in January. 90min, meanwhile, has claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are in regular contact with the World Cup runner-up’s agent over a transfer.

France icon Trezeguet backs Rabiot to build on his World Cup form in Turin

France legend Trezeguet has now told Sky Sports Italia that Rabiot’s contract is an issue for his former club, Juventus. But he believes the midfielder’s strong World Cup form can now follow Rabiot back to Turin as he has ‘always been’ an important player and can be in Italy.

“We are talking about a problem with Juventus,” he said. “In Italy, he was targeted but in France, it is quite the opposite. He is a national team player of an extraordinary level. Now, he will do his checks. It is a delicate moment [but] the important player he is will return.”
