Tottenham resumed normal service when they recorded their first win of the new Premier League season on Saturday.
Ange Postecoglou watched his side put four goals past an abject, helpless and out-of-sorts Everton team, with those goals flattering Sean Dyche’s side because it could and should have been more.
Tottenham recorded a 1-1 draw at Leicester on Monday night and they wasted chances during that game, but they didn’t repeat those efforts at the weekend.
Yves Bissouma returned from his ban and opened the scoring with a thunderous effort, with Son Heung-min netting a brace and Cristian Romero also getting on the scoresheet.
Ian Wright liked what he saw from Tottenham, but there was one man who was ‘so impressive’ according to the former striker.
During Postecoglou’s time at the club, he has been backed in the transfer market and he has brought in the players he has wanted.
His style of play requires a certain type of player in the building and no one else at Spurs demonstrates that more than Micky van de Ven.
A centre-back by trade, Tottenham’s speed machine van de Ven turned into a prime Yaya Toure when he ran from the edge of his own box to the end of the opposition’s to lay off a pass and assist for Son’s second goal.
The Everton players didn’t get near the flying Dutchman, as he drove through the middle of the pitch and left Ian Wright seriously impressed.
The former striker admitted that the run from van de Ven was ‘unbelievable’ and ‘so impressive’, as he told Premier League Productions (24/08/24 at 8:35 pm).
Micky van de Ven’s assist
“Unbelievable,” said Wright about van de Ven’s run. “It was (a blistering run). Everton were on the attack and he is on the edge of his own box.
“If you look at all of the Everton players, the ones in front of him and the ones running beside him. None of them get near him. None of them get in front of him to make a challenge. That’s pace and ability that was. It’s unbelievable what he has done there. It’s so impressive. So impressive.”

Tottenham’s centre-back depth
Radu Dragusin is Tottenham’s back-up centre-back, but Postecoglou needs more cover if he wants to see out this campaign successfully.
The London club have paid good money for their three centre-backs – van de Ven, Romero and Dragusin.

Van de Ven cost £43 million, this isn’t a case of paying that sort of money again, but dipping into the market before Friday’s deadline and bulking up that area.
Otherwise, as Spurs proved in all the wrong ways last season. One injury at the back and then they are in major trouble.
