Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro appears to have little interest in sealing a move to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, telling Noticias de Gipuzkoa he wants to stay at the La Liga leaders.
If Hugo Lloris’ outstanding performance in the Nations League semi-final is anything to go by, nobody should be consigning the 34-year-old to an early retirement just yet.
Plenty of questions have been asked about Tottenham’s long-serving number one in recent times and, while mistakes have undoubtedly crept into Lloris’ game, the France captain is still capable of providing moments of match-winning quality between the sticks.
The fact is, however, there will be 35 candles on Lloris’ Boxing Day birthday cake.
And while the veteran glovesman is expected to extend a contract that runs out in the summer, the Independent believes Tottenham are looking to bring in a younger option with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and Napoli’s Alex Meret under consideration.
26-year-old Remiro is understood to be another option – although the 26-year-old didn’t give Tottenham much hope when asked about his future in San Sebastian.

“I already said a while ago, the intention of both parties is I remain here as long as possible. I want to stay at La Real until the club (doesn’t) want me,” says Remiro, whose fine form has helped Sociedad climb to the summit of the La Liga table.
“And if something suddenly happens that doesn’t go along these lines, we will manage it all together, because I don’t want to generate any kind of problem.
“I am extremely grateful for everything I have experienced here to date – for the treatment, for each of the seasons, for the support, for the training.
“When I decided to leave Athletic (Remiro swapped Bilbao for arch rivals Sociedad in 2019), I didn’t do it looking to win games or to be the undisputed starter.
“What I was looking for was closeness, the people, the city. And today I can say I have found all that.”
Remiro, then, looks very likely to stay put. The same can’t be said about Pierluigi Gollini, however, the Atalanta loanee who’s been restricted to Europa Conference League cameos since joining Spurs in the summer.
