Istanbul Basaksehir’s president believes Trezeguet will finally join the club on Tuesday from Premier League outfit Aston Villa, speaking to O Jogo.
If it wasn’t for his involvement in the African Cup of Nations, Trezeguet might already have been unveiled by the 2019/20 Super Lig champions.
It is no secret that Basaksehir want the former Kasimpasa talisman signed before Tuesday night’s Turkish transfer deadline.
Head coach Emre admits that there has been ‘progress’ in the club’s pursuit of Aston Villa’s £9 million winger.
And now that the African Cup of Nations has come to an end, Trezeguet’s Egypt suffering penalty shoot-out heartbreak at the hands of Senegal, Basaksehir will slam their foot down on the accelerator as the deadline looms into view.
“Trezeguet reached the AFCON final for Egypt,” explains president Goksel Gumusdag. “That’s why I think he will only arrive on Tuesday.”
Will Trezeguet leave Aston Villa this week?
Trezeguet, who joined following 2019’s play-off final victory over Derby County, is not the only winger in Basaskehir’s sights.
Gumusdag confirms that negotiations are also underway regarding a deal for Pizzi, Benfica’s former Portugal international.
“We are also in talks for Pizzi, a Benfica player. I believe we will make it,” he adds.

Trezeguet was included in Aston Villa’s Premier League squad for the second half of 2021/22. That is despite falling down the pecking order following Philippe Coutinho’s shock arrival from Barcelona.
But, with Coutinho, Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Ollie Watkins all ahead of him in the pecking order, manager Steven Gerrard won’t stand in Trezeguet’s way if an acceptable offer arrives.
Trezeguet, who also held talks with Super Lig giants Galatasaray, has played just 10 minutes of Premier League football all season. He missed the first few months of the campaign following knee surgery.
