Istanbul Basaksehir coach Emre Belezoglu tells Yeni Safak that a deal for Aston Villa’s Premier League winger Trezeguet is progressing.
The shutters may have come rattling down from Cornwall to Kirkcaldy on Monday night, when the clock struck 11pm. But that does not mean Trezeguet is stuck at Villa Park, gathering dust on the sidelines between now and May.
The Turkish transfer window doesn’t close until February 8th after all.
That means, if a deal can be agreed, the former Kasimpasa winger could still be on his way back to the Super Lig in the coming days.
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard admitted a fortnight ago that Trezeguet, who’s played just ten minutes of Premier League football all season and has fallen behind Philippe Coutinho in the pecking order, may be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer arrives.
Galatasaray held talks earlier in January. But Istanbul neighbours Basaksehir now appear to be leading the chase for Trezeguet’s signature.
Is Trezeguet still set to leave Aston Villa?
“We want to expand the player pool in a way that will benefit us,” admits Emre, the former Newcastle and Inter Milan playmaker.
“Yes, we had an initiative related to (Bestikas winger) Adem Ljajic. But then the move progressed in a way we didn’t want, so we gave up on the transfer.

“There is also progress on Trezeguet, who plays for Aston Villa.”
Basaksehir’s president insisted, over the weekend, that a deal for Trezeguet has been ‘agreed’. And Emre was equally confident when pressed on the 27-year-old’s future.
“As our esteemed president said, it seems like there will be a move for Trezeguet,” he addds. “Maybe we can add one more player.
“Maybe we are trying to take advantage of that extra week of transfer time given to our league.”
Trezeguet scored the winning goal in Egypt’s 2-1 victory over Morocco recently, converting a brilliant Mo Salah cross in extra-time to fire The Pharoah’s into the African Cup of Nations semi-finals.
