Sassuolo boss Alessio Dionisi has told Sport Mediaset that he expects Gianluca Scamacca to end the season with the Serie A side, despite reported transfer interest from Arsenal.
Dionisi is confident the Neroverdi can withstand any attempts to prise the Italy striker from the Mapei Stadium this month. He also believes Scamacca needs to stay in Emilia-Romagna as he is playing more often this season than ever before.
Scamacca made his 23rd appearance of the campaign so far as Sassuolo beat Cagliari in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday. The 23-year-old led the line for 69-minutes of the affair settled by Abdou Harroui’s 18th-minute goal assisted by Rogerio.

Scamacca has nine goals in Serie A so far this season after taking his output to another level in November. He had only scored twice in his first 12 games of the campaign, but has since struck seven in nine.
Eight of his last nine league appearances have also been in starting roles after only opening three of 12 games. Scamacca had only played 20-minutes over three Serie A outings for the Neroverdi prior to this term.
Additionally, the Rome native started just 13 of his 27 outings while on loan at Genoa last season. Scamacca is now only 350-minutes short of matching his 2020/21 total, as well. He played 1,393-minutes last term for eight goals and two assists.
Dionisi confident Sassuolo can keep Arsenal transfer target Scamacca
Scamacca has put a number of clubs, including Arsenal, on alert with his goals for Sassuolo into the January transfer window. FC Inter News report the Gunners, along with Newcastle United, Inter Milan and Juventus are now considering moves for the €40m (£33m) striker.

Neroverdi Chairman Giovanni Carnevali is thrilled the forward has multiple clubs tracking him, although no offers are on the table. But Dionisi is confident Sassuolo can keep Arsenal and their rival transfer suitors from signing Scamacca, who needs to stay.
“I feel like saying that no one will go away anymore,” Dionisi said. “Gianluca will finish the season in Sassuolo, like Giacomo [Raspadori]. We need them, as well as they need Sassuolo to grow. They are playing more than they ever have.”
