Italian outlet FC Inter News claim that Tottenham have been joined by Arsenal in the race to sign Sassuolo goalscorer Gianluca Scamacca. Newcastle, meanwhile, have asked for information about the Italy star.
Scamacca, 23, has finally been given a chance at Sassuolo – five years after joining the club in January 2017. Over the past four years, he has gone on loan four times – the last being Genoa, in which he scored 12 goals in 29.
Two-time Italy star Scamacca has been on fire for Sassuolo – scoring nine goals in 21 games for the Serie A outfit. That form has attracted interest from the Premier League – Gazzetta claim that Spurs want Scamacca.
However, Antonio Conte’s side now have competition. FC Inter News report that Arsenal are now also interested – while Newcastle have enquired about Scamacca. The report claims Sassuolo want a fee of £33million.
Arsenal and Newcastle eye Sassuolo: Which club is best for him?
Scamacca is still young and slightly unproven. His record of 17 goals in 50 Serie A games is hardly enlightening, but his form is improving and he is shining in a Sassuolo side that currently sit in 12th place.
If he was to join one of the three Premier League clubs vying for his signature this month – then Arsenal is probably his best bet. Newcastle have already signed Chris Wood, have Callum Wilson, and could go down.
A move to Tottenham would see him firmly sit as cover for Harry Kane – warming the bench. At Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in June; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been ostracised.
Arsenal would be Scamacca’s best move – a player that shares the same agent as Juventus star Dejan Kulusevski, according to TransferMarkt.
