‘He’s rapid’: Martin Keown wowed by ‘wonderful talent’ Tottenham could sign

Martin Keown has labelled Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Gareth Bale, as a ‘wonderful talent’, as he told BT Sport.

The former defender added that Bale ‘has to be in the conversation’ to possibly make the greatest-ever Champions League XI.

On Saturday, Bale won his fifth European crown when Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in Paris – although he played very little part in this triumph compared to other victories.

Bale’s contract at Madrid expires in June and he is set to leave, with Spurs a possible destination for the 32-year-old.

There’s no doubt that the Welshman has divided opinion during his career, but Keown was certain that he should be spoken about in high regard.

“Gareth Bale is a wonderful talent,” said Keown. “Even this season, for Wales, saw him score two goals recently.

“I know he’s injured and he has different problems. But he has managed those injuries. He has to be in the conversation (to make the best-ever Champions League XI) with the way he has played over his career. 

“To have won it the number of times that he has. I mean he is rapid and his effectiveness.” 

BALE TO FOLLOW PERISIC TO TOTTENHAM?

Ivan Perisic was confirmed as Tottenham’s first summer signing on Tuesday, with Luka Modric giving the thumbs up to the deal.

The 33-year-old arrives from Inter Milan and he will provide much-needed depth and experience to Tottenham’s wide areas. 

But could Bale follow the Croatia international to Spurs? It was only last season, under Jose Mourinho, that Bale returned to where he made a name for himself.

So, with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar around the corner and Wales one game away from qualifying, then there’s no reason to not think he won’t don Tottenham colours again.
