Glenn Murray says Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Alexis Mac Allister is ‘happy’ at Brighton and Hove Albion and he thinks owner Tony Bloom will keep him.

The Argentina international is on cloud nine after experiencing the greatest night a footballer could ever be a part of when his nation secured World Cup glory in Qatar.

That has resulted in the 24-year-old being heavily linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham – his current deal at Brighton expires in 2025.

Well, on Saturday, Mac Allister returned to domestic action after World Cup glory and he started off with a bang.

The 24-year-old netted a brace, including a Cryuff-like goal, as Brighton thrashed Middlesbrough 5-1 to book their passage into the fourth-round of the FA Cup.

Former Brighton striker Glenn Murray was asked about Mac Allister’s future and the mood of the player after returning from the World Cup, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (07/01/23 at 5:20 pm).

“I think he’s happy,” said Murray. “I think that Brighton’s next step. They now have a lot of assets in their team and it’s whether they can keep the group together.

“If they do, then there is only one way they are going to go. They are going to progress. There is Robert Sanchez there. There is Caicedo. Mitoma and Mac Allister, so they have got a really good stable. It’s just a case of whether they want to keep them together and I believe Tony Bloom will want to and he will want to progress the football club.”

MAC ALLISTER SHOULD STAY

There is a lot of hype around Mac Allister, but instead, he should stay put and do his talking on the pitch for Brighton this season.

Is he worthy of making that step up? No doubt. But he also needs to look at where Brighton currently are.

They are one point outside of Europe and into the next round of the FA Cup, and if they keep their key players on board this month, then there is no reason why Roberto De Zerbi can’t guide them to Europe.
