Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that Brazilian defender Gabriel is “evolving” and “getting better” as a footballer.

Arteta has been hugely impressed by how Gabriel has been playing for Arsenal.

The Arsenal boss has outlined the attributes of the 25-year-old defender and has said what makes him so good.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal centre-back Gabriel

Arteta said about Gabriel: “Not only his performances, but the way he’s evolving.

“I think he’s just getting better in every phase of play and everything we demand him to do.

“His leadership skills, his importance to the team, his mentality as well – I think he’s come a long way since he joined the club.”

Underrated

In our view, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel is very underrated.

We believe that the 25-year-old is one of the best and most important players at Arsenal.

Yes, Gabriel makes mistakes, but which footballer doesn’t?

Whenever we mention Arsenal, we name the likes of William Saliba, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard among players who are key to their ongoing good form.

Gabriel often goes under the radar.

The Arsenal no. 6 has scored two goals in 20 Premier League appearances so far this season.

The Brazilian has made four starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League, one substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup, and two appearances in the FA Cup for Mikel Arteta’s side so far this season.

In our view, for Arsenal to win the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League this season, Gabriel will have to be in top form in the coming weeks and months.
