Jose Enrique has said that Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes is the most underrated player in the Premier League.

While the £50,000-a-week centre-half was guilty of making consistent errors at the start of the season, with John Giles, Tim Sherwood and Jamie Redknapp previously criticising him, he has turned things around emphatically.

As a result, Jose Enrique has now dubbed Gabriel Magalhaes as the most underrated player in the entirety of the Premier League.

However, especially since the return of club football, the Brazilian central defender has managed to cover himself in glory, while some may argue that the revered William Saliba has been rather error-prone.

Well, onto what Jose Enrique tweeted, “Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal [is the most underrated player in the Premier League]. “Everyone [is] talking about [William] Saliba because he is younger etc. but Gabriel has been the best centre-back in the league and he [is] still 25.”

The ex-Liverpool left-back continued, “But it is true that there are many options out there like [Kaoru] Mitoma,James Ward[-Prowse] [Gabriel] Martinelli and many more.”

Jose Enrique may have a point

It is key to emphasise that in reality, there is no credible metric that proves how highly or not a player is held within the perceptions of fans and pundits alike.

However, Gabriel Magalhaes does not seem to get the same amount of credit as William Saliba, as Jose Enrique said, whilst also not getting lauded for righting his wrongs and emerging as Arsenal’s most reliable centre-back, which makes him rather underrated in some ways. Hell, Tim Sherwood even dubbed his rash challenge to hand Tottenham Hotspur a penalty in the first North London Derby this season as ‘foolish.’

While there could be other more valid suggestions, especially from clubs outside the ‘Big Six’, the 25-year-old, who could become a Premier League champion in May is right up there.
