Rangers supporters have come to the defence of their former striker

If you read Wednesday’s ‘Celtic fans share petition to remove former Rangers star from Sky coverage’ headline and thought ‘I’ve enjoyed this ridiculous story, please give me some more of it’, you’re in luck.
Boyd, who won six trophies across two spells at Ibrox, has endeared himself to supporters of his former team in his role as a pundit with Sky Sports.
Celtic fans, not so much.
Victories for Rangers are greeted with a wry smile, while defeats for Celtic are greeted with…a wry smile.

With their side 23 points behind in the title race, out of three cup competitions and enduring a series of PR disasters off the pitch, some fans of Neil Lennon’s side have found it hard to take Boyd’s chirpy attitude with a pinch of salt.
That might explain the petition that was posted on Change.org by a Celtic supporter this week entitled ‘Take Kris Boyd off punditry/commentary for Celtic games not involving Rangers/Kilmarnock’.
It read: “As the sole TV broadcaster of the Scottish Premiership, Sky Sports has a responsibility to provide the nation’s football fans with the best possible coverage of live matches.
“A key factor in achieving this is to employ a balanced team of pundits and commentators that have either played for both clubs involved (or with no allegiance to either team/to either team’s main rivals).
“Unfortunately, former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has continually proven to be an extremely biased anti-Celtic pundit. It is flabbergasting that Sky Sports continues to allow him to pollute the air waves for Celtic matches which do not involve any of his former clubs.
“We would like to request that Sky Sports uses better logic in its deployment of commentators and pundits for all live Scottish football matches, most especially in relation to Kris Boyd.”
Conveniently, at the time of writing it has 1,888 signatures.
In the ‘Reasons for signing’ section, James McDowall wrote: “Talks a lot of s***e.”

A Rangers supporter responded on Thursday by backing the ex-Kilmarnock goalscorer, with a campaign on the same site urging Sky not to sack Kris Boyd.
The petition is entitled ‘Don’t Sack Kris Boyd’.
The explanation reads: “Kris Boyd has found himself again. He is Reborn.
“One of the people who holds them in the same regard as you and I.
“He must keep his job, and possibly be given a promotion and wage rise.”
It has already vastly exceeded the number of signatures garnered by the original, with 5,982 so far.
In the ‘Reasons for signing’ section, Agnes Lowrie wrote: “I love his big smile and his banter.”
We’ll have the latest on any petition from the rest of Scottish football urging Celtic and Rangers fans to take a day off.
