Celtic supporters have reserved some harsh words for Kris Boyd

Celtic fans are sharing a petition to have Kris Boyd removed from Sky Sports’ coverage of their club’s matches.

The former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker is accused in the petition of showing favour to Steven Gerrard’s side, and its creator cites the broadcaster’s requirement to “employ a balanced team of pundits and commentators”.

Clearly, they believe Boyd does not fall into this category.

As a player, Boyd scored 138 goals in 234 appearances for the Ibrox club, and in his role as a pundit has frequently sported a grin during a season that has seen Celtic fall 23 points behind their rivals in the title race.

The petition, entitled ‘Take Kris Boyd off punditry/commentary for Celtic games not involving Rangers/Kilmarnock’, was posted on Change.org.

It reads: “As the sole TV broadcaster of the Scottish Premiership, Sky Sports has a responsibility to provide the nation’s football fans with the best possible coverage of live matches.

“A key factor in achieving this is to employ a balanced team of pundits and commentators that have either played for both clubs involved (or with no allegiance to either team/to either team’s main rivals).

“Unfortunately, former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has continually proven to be an extremely biased anti-Celtic pundit. It is flabbergasting that Sky Sports continues to allow him to pollute the air waves for Celtic matches which do not involve any of his former clubs.

“We would like to request that Sky Sports uses better logic in its deployment of commentators and pundits for all live Scottish football matches, most especially in relation to Kris Boyd.”

Speaking on Sky Sports before Rangers’ recent 1-0 win over Hibs, Boyd said Celtic had been warned prior to this season that Gerrard’s side were improving.

He said: ““I think that the first part of last season showed us all that Rangers were in a position where if they get it right for the full season they can challenge Celtic.

“That’s why when people are saying that Celtic never saw this coming, well they were warned in the first part of last season.”

The petition currently has 446 signatures, just 54 away from its target of 500.
