Jamie O’Hara has said on Twitter that Aston Villa central defender Ezri Konsa should have been included in the latest England squad ahead of Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier.
Konsa is not part of the latest England squad for their upcoming matches, but Dier, who is playing as a central defender this season despite also being able to operate as a midfielder, has been included.
The 27-year-old was in action for Spurs on Thursday evening, as Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb away from home in the second leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie to go out 3-2 on aggregate.
The performance of Dier left much to be desired, and former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports and talkSPORT, believes that Konsa – who cost Villa £12 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Brentford in the summer of 2019, according to The Athletic – should have been selected ahead of Dier.
According to WhoScored, Konsa has made 24 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Villa so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.
