The Leeds United forward has gone on trial at Huddersfield while his young teammate has stepped into the first-team squad.
Given how highly he was once rated at Elland Road, the news that young striker Frank Mulhern is currently on trial at Championship rivals Huddersfield will have come as a shock to those who keep a close eye on the under-23s.

However, while the possibility of waving goodbye to the Irish forward will be disappointing for those who felt he would ultimately break into Leed’s senior side, could the emergence of another exciting striker have prompted the change of heart?

Mallik Wilks may only be 18 but he has already usurped the likes of Mulhern, Eoghan Stokes and (the currently on loan) Lee Erwin at the club, so with limited places Leeds manager Garry Monk may have simply opted to put his faith in the former.
While Mulhern is on trial at Huddersfield there is no guarantee they will sign him in a permanent deal.

However the very fact that Leeds are willing to sanction the temporary switch suggests a rethink when it comes to just which of the talented young strikers they are expecting big things from.

It also shows that managerial changes at a club can impact far more than just the first-team, with teenagers once tipped for stardom suddenly deemed surplus to requirements.
