HITC understands that Harry Maguire still believes he can be an important player for Manchester United this season.

Manchester United confirmed the signing of Lille defender Leny Yoro last month but the Frenchman has suffered a metatarsal injury that is set to keep him out until November at the earliest.

The Red Devils have also confirmed the signing of Matthijs De Ligt with HITC reporting over the weekend that United had struck an agreement with Bayern Munich for the Dutch defender.

With two new centre-back additions coming into the team this summer, the future of Harry Maguire had been called into question.

Harry Maguire’s stance on Man United future

HITC has previously reported that United would be open to selling Maguire and Victor Lindelof this summer with the Red Devils signing two centre-backs.

Sources have told HITC that Maguire believes he can still be an important part of United’s future and never had an interest in leaving the club this summer.

31-year-old Maguire is understood to have been one of those who United were ready to listen to offers for as they looked to bring in at least two new central defenders.

Now that United have brought in Yoro and De Ligt, perhaps a centre-back departure could be on the way after Raphael Varane departed Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Sources have told HITC that United are pushing Lindelof towards the exit door this summer but Maguire will not be following the Swedish defender out of Old Trafford during the current transfer window.

Maguire attracted interest but will remain at United

With the injury problems that Lisandro Martinez had to deal with last summer, the Englishman was a crucial cog for the Red Devils as they won the FA Cup under Erik ten Hag.

HITC understands there have been some enquiries about Maguire, who missed Euro 2024 through injury.

However these enquiries never went further as the former Leicester City man insisted he wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place at United.

Steve Bruce praised Maguire’s strength and the English defender may have to show that once again if he is to be given more first-team chances under Ten Hag, particularly with two new centre-backs to fight with.
