England’s all-time leading scorer Harry Kane broke down what makes him and Norway’s Erling Haaland different strikers before their World Cup match.

England will hope they can stop Norway’s electric run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a quarterfinals win.

This clash will be a defining battle between the two best strikers in the world. While both are traditional strikers, Kane views himself differently from Haaland.

Harry Kane thinks he’s a ‘completely different player’ compared to Erling Haaland

In an interview with local media, Kane was directly asked about how he and Haaland compare as strikers, with Kane breaking down the difference between them by claiming he plays an entirely different position.

“That question is difficult for me to answer. First of all, I think we are almost completely different players. Although we both appear as strikers, to be honest, we have almost different positions… Scoring goals is the same, but we are players in different positions. I touch the ball more and prefer to be more involved in the game, but I can also play as a forward.”

“Haaland is truly amazing. His scoring record is very good. Physically, he is a goal-scoring machine and a beast. His finishing ability is top-notch. His scoring record speaks for itself.”

Kane has developed a more tactical game as he’s aged, but stylistically, it’s easy to see the similarities between Kane and Haaland as prime goalscorers finishing off elite service.

Both Haaland and Kane are in the fight for the Golden Boot, with Haaland at seven goals and Kane at six, behind leaders Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe (eight goals).

Neither Messi nor Mbappe qualifies as a traditional striker, while Haaland and Kane do, even if Kane claims to be an ‘almost entirely different’ player.

Kane can find more success as a deep-lying forward who assists in the build-up play, averaging 43.8 touches per match compared to Haaland’s 22.5 touches at club level.

Haaland is a superior poacher and might not be as technically skilled on the ball as Kane, but they both serve the same role and purpose for their national teams. They get the goals that help them stack the wins.

Kane is having a better season, scoring a total of xx goals since the start of last season (club + internationals) while winning the German league.

Haaland might soon wear the crown of best striker in the world, but he still has work to do to surpass Kane. A World Cup upset win would go a long way in building his case.
