The fallout from Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo punching former teammate and current Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro is just beginning.

After Herro’s more-than-frank comments about Adebayo’s status within the Heat and how he’s not worth the contract he’s on, tensions boiled over with Adebayo punching Herro at Summer League.

Given their status as former teammates and friends, there’s a lot to unpack about what transpired between them, and it doesn’t appear as if Herro is blameless.

Tyler Herro criticized by fellow players and coaches after Bam Adebayo’s punch

Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko interviewed players and coaches around the Las Vegas Summer League to discuss what transpired between Herro and Adebayo, with a pretty harsh verdict being shared on Herro.

“According to players and coaches who have competed against the 26-year-old Herro, he’s been described as cocky and someone who consistently attempts to rile up opposing players by talking trash and insinuating he’ll fight. ‘Same boring tough-guy s—,’ said one individual.”

While it’s been confirmed that Herro’s leaked social media comments were the root cause behind the incident, it seems the new Bucks guard might be portrayed as the one shouldering the blame.

With Herro getting a fresh start in Milwaukee, he’s likely going to put this incident behind him on the court. But these negative opinions from his peers will take longer to move on from.

What did Tyler Herro say about Bam Adebayo in leaked DMs?

Herro was on his Instagram burner account @wonderdidit and got into it with a fan after being traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Here are a few of the main highlight quotes from the conversation where Herro is clearly being shady against Adebayo.

“It’s a mf making 60 million, but they worried about me and what I do.”

“You should get paid 60 million to be a top-tier defender on some nights? I’m just wondering.”

“I need help, not the other guy.”

“If I’m healthy, I’m the one who needs help. Who did Cleveland prioritize taking away in the playoffs?”

“I’m just saying, should an elite defender be making 60 million a year? Answer that.”

With Herro clearly harboring bad blood over how the Heat valued Adebayo over him, these harsh comments might explain Adebayo’s thinking, especially from a close friend and teammate.

Nonetheless, Herro was the one who ultimately got punched, so it’s hard not to feel for him as well.
