Giannis Antetokounmpo extends an olive branch to new Miami Heat teammate Bam Adebayo and his family.
Giannis was traded to join Adebayo’s Heat this summer, teaming up with two players who had been conference rivals for years.
With Adebayo and Antetokounmpo focused on being on the same page after years of an on-court rivalry, Antetokounmpo had the perfect vacation idea for the pair.
Giannis Antetokounmpo invites Bam Adebayo and A’ja Wilson to Greece
As Antetokounmpo went to the Heat’s practice facility, he met Adebayo mid-workout as Giannis suggested Bam come with him to vacation in Greece, where they can work out together.
“Come to Greece.. Come to Greece with your wife. Your wife, sorry. I don’t know if you’re married.”
Giannis’ invitation for A’ja Wilson came after Adebayo pointed out that he isn’t single enough to make impromptu plans. But Bam did say he will try to link up with his new teammate in Greece.
Giannis is known to not be friendly with rival players, including during offseason workouts, so this might be the first opportunity for Bam and Giannis to build their chemistry before a high-stakes win-now season on the Heat.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo are foes turned friends
Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks faced Adebayo and the Heat in three out of four Playoffs between 2020 and 2023.
The 2020 matchup saw the Heat pull off a massive upset over the two-time league MVP and reigning DPOY, with Bam’s Heat eliminating Giannis’ Bucks in the second round en route to the NBA Finals.
The teams faced off again in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, with the Bucks comfortably sweeping the Heat in the first round before eventually winning the NBA title.
Their last matchup came in 2023, as the Heat pulled off a stunning first-round upset to eliminate the No. 1 seed Bucks and make another run to the Finals.
Milwaukee never advanced past the first round again, as Giannis’ frustrations boiled into a trade where he’s now teammates with arguably his biggest on-court rival, as Adebayo has always been the primary Heat defender on Antetokounmpo, while having a winning Playoff record.
