Gary Neville has claimed that Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham is a ‘generational talent’ alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City superstar, Phil Foden, as he told Sky Sports.

Ahead of England’s World Cup opener against Iran next Monday in Qatar, Neville shared that he is starting the above three players in Gareth Southgate’s XI.

Not in a four-at-the-back system, which all three use at club level, but in a back three, with Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold being deployed as a wing-back, Borussia Dortmund teenager Bellingham in a midfield two alongside Declan Rice and Foden on the left of a front three.

When it comes to pure talent, there aren’t many within England’s set-up that can match these players.

That’s why Neville agreed that they are ‘generational talents’, including the rising midfielder Liverpool want at Anfield.

“What Jamie (Redknapp) says about a generational talent,” said Neville. “I think Foden is that. I think Bellingham is that. And, to be fair, I know we talk about him a lot, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is that really.

“You look at him, in terms of what he is in his position, there is nothing like him in terms of his delivery.”

WILL BELLINGHAM JOIN TAA AT ANFIELD?

That’s the dream scenario for Liverpool fans, but it’s one that is probably slipping away from them.

It has been well-documented that they are long-admirers of the 19-year-old, but so is the rest of Europe, and if the Reds don’t get their act together quickly, then they won’t compete with the elite next season in order of having a chance to sign him.

The other issue is that, if Bellingham shines on the World Cup stage, then that already-rising transfer fee that is on his head will only increase.

There is a generational tax on his head, then there is an English tax on his head, add the World Cup tax to that, and then he might prove to be out of reach for those on Merseyside.

Unless FSG sells up and brings in buyers that are willing to push the boat out to sign a player that will probably dominate football, alongside Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland for the next decade at least.
