Arsenal have been subject to a bizarre Gary Neville comment despite Saturday’s remarkable 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium.

What’s the story?

Well, some Arsenal fans will recall the 48-year-old claiming that “Arsenal have no leaders” earlier this season.

Neville was teased by Jamie Carragher on Twitter for such an outlandish claim as the Gunners sit top of the Premier League.

However – in strange fashion – the Sky Sports pundit appeared to double down on that comment, despite Saturday’s 3-2 win and other victories this season proving that Arsenal clearly have leaders in their ranks.

Carragher mocked Neville for three claims he has made so far this season, which were “people just take the ball off Messi” nowadays, Liverpool “didn’t even play well” in their 7-0 win on Sunday, and the remark about Arsenal.

Neville appeared to concede that he was wrong about Messi only, hitting back with “two of those are right, you will see.”

You can see his tweet in full below.

In response, Carragher simply replied with a photo of Mohamed Salah embarrassing Lisandro Martinez at Anfield on Sunday.

Gary Neville could not be more wrong about Arsenal

We cannot understand how Neville feels there are no leaders within Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Just look at the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Martin Ødegaard, Granit Xhaka, Jorginho, Gabriel Magalhaes and Bukayo Saka.

The latter leads from the front on a weekly basis – all of his 11 goals have either put Arsenal ahead or equalised this season – while Jorginho, even when on the bench, can be seen motivating his teammates from the sideline.

A side without leaders would not be sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League in March.

If Arsenal end up losing the title to Manchester City, Neville will surely feel as if he has been proven right, although even in that hypothetical scenario, it would not mean the Gunners have no leaders – far from it.
