Former Spain international Joan Capdevila has sent a plea out to the President of the United States ahead of Sunday’s final in New Jersey.

Argentina are hoping to retain their World Cup crown on Sunday against Spain, but Capdevila is now at risk of missing the game at MetLife Stadium.

The former Spanish defender won the World Cup back in 2010, yet he is struggling to make it to the United States due to permit issues.

Lionel Messi & Lamine Yamal are the stars of their nations but aside from them, who could be a matchwinner in the World Cup final and why?

Donald Trump has certainly had an influence on this summer’s tournament, with a number of controversies attributed to him over recent weeks.

A FIFA referee was denied entry to the United States, and the same looks set to happen to Capdevila as he is pleading for help from the president.

Joan Capdevila denied US entry as Donald Trump plea made ahead of World Cup final

Spain secured their spot in the final after defeating many people’s favourites to lift the trophy, France, earlier in the week.

However, Capdevila now looks set to miss watching his nation in action on Sunday due to his ESTA being rejected.

‘I NEED HELP @realDonaldTrump!’ he said on X.

‘They just told me that I can’t travel to the final with my kids because my ESTA has been denied.’

‘Can anyone help me with this? You have no idea how excited I was to be there with all my 2010 teammates and this team to cheer them on. I can’t believe they’re not letting me into the USA… and that I’ll miss a moment like this with my kids who love soccer so much…’

This is not the first time in which someone of note has been denied access to the United States this summer for the World Cup.

The Somali referee, Omar Artan, did not see his issues resolved and it is clear that Capdevila is worried he will be suffering the same fate.

Trump has come under a lot of criticism this summer due to the level of his involvement in the World Cup.

This could be a good opportunity for him to potentially do some good, but recent examples would suggest Capdevila may be watching from his sofa on Sunday.
