Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has agreed a one-year deal with Championship side Inverness CT, according to a report, after he left Kilmarnock at the end of last season.

Broadfoot, who featured for the Light Blues in the 2008 UEFA Cup final, will also start his coaching career with a role in Caley’s Academy as he looks beyond his playing career.

Inverness are managed by former Rangers striker Billy Dodds and the Daily Record claim Broadfoot was impressed by the ambition shown by both Dodds and the club.

As well as stints at Ibrox and Kilmarnock, Broadfoot has also played for St. Mirren, Blackpool and Rotherham United.

The defender could make his Caley debut on Tuesday when they face Peterhead in the Premier Sports Cup, if his move in finalised in time.

Former Rangers man could make huge difference in tight Championship

The Championship looks like being really tight this year with a number of clubs capable of winning the title, and promotion back to the Premiership, with Broadfoot likely to be key for Inverness.

The Caley Jags are definitely one of the sides who will consider themselves to be in a strong position to go up this season and make their return to the top-flight after a number of years in the second tier.

Broadfoot’s experience of winning trophies at Rangers will be a big benefit in a relatively inexperienced dressing room and his signing should reap rewards for Dodds and Inverness.
