Rangers fans were left with little to shout about after this afternoon’s 1-0 friendly defeat by Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park – but one positive to come out of the game was the performance of midfielder Stephen Kelly.

Kelly built on his showing against Partick Thistle with another solid showing in the middle of the park and Rangers fans thinks manager Steven Gerrard should be keeping him around this season.

The Scotland under-21 international spent last season on loan at Ross County, having been at Ayr United the previous season, and had a good season in Dingwall with the Staggies.

The arrival of John Lundstram from Sheffield United has bolstered the Rangers midfield ahead of their title defence this season.

The Englishman will join the likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo and Steven Davis competing for a place in the side and fans are sure Kelly would benefit from being around them on a daily basis.

While there has been some suggestions Kelly could head back out on loan again this season, fans want him to stick around and took to Twitter to make it clear after he impressed again this afternoon
