Rangers B star Lewis MacKinnon thinks the experience of coming up against senior pros this season is only going to help the Gers youngsters develop after a 2-1 comeback win over Clyde yesterday afternoon.

Goals from Arron Lyall and Robbie Ure after the break saw the Light Blues recover from going 1-0 down early on against the League One side.

MacKinnon played the full 90 minutes as David McCallum and Brian Gilmour’s side put in a solid performance against the Bully Wee and the 18-year-old Northern Irishman was happy with his teammates’ showing.

“I think we played well, it is good to play against a first-team and I think they gave us challenges but challenges we dealt with,” MacKinnon told Rangers TV.

“I feel the more we play against first-teams and get that exposure the more we are going to develop so it was a good performance from the boys today.

“The message at half-time was to press them more really and hit the ground running again and keep putting them under pressure but on the ball compose ourselves.

“I felt we did that and created chances and we tried our best to keep them quiet. We are only going to develop from it.”

One pre-season game left for Rangers B before historic league campaign starts

There is only one pre-season game left for the young Rangers starlets before they kick off their Lowland League campaign, welcoming Burnley under-21s to the Rangers Training Centre later this week.

After that, it is a Lowland League clash with Bo’ness United at the C&G Systems Stadium in Dumbarton.

That should offer a massive opportunity for the Rangers youngsters to develop and push on for first-team places in the coming seasons.
