According to Fabrizio Romano, Jules Kounde is now keen on a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham and Newcastle interested in his services.

What’s the story?

Well, it has been said that both Spurs and the Magpies are interested in the France international, who is also a target for Chelsea.

You may remember that Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Tottenham – had agreed a deal for the centre-back in 2021, only for the player himself to reject the move.

Now, the Premier League trio have received a boost, after Romano claimed that Kounde “would love” to play his football in England.

You can see what the reliable Italian wrote in full below.

Interestingly, Romano adds that Kounde has a release clause worth €80m (£69m) written into his contract.

It may be a pricey sum, but if Tottenham and Newcastle really do want to sign the 23-year-old, it means they can at least go straight to discussions over personal terms if they stump up the cash.

If Antonio Conte wins the race to sign Kounde, those at Arsenal certainly won’t be happy – the Gunners tried to sign the defender in 2021.

Tottenham must be wary of Newcastle

In our view, Tottenham should be seriously worried about Newcastle in the race to sign Kounde.

The Magpies actually bid £59m for the Sevilla No.23 in January, so they only need to add another £10m on top of that to trigger his release clause.

Newcastle’s riches have been well documented, and they were made evident by the £40m signing of Bruno Guimaraes in January.

We’re not sure if Tottenham can match this financial power, and while they can offer Kounde Champions League football, they may not be able to fend Newcastle off financially,

Nevertheless, keep an eye on this interesting saga, as anything could happen this summer.
