Newcastle United want Jules Kounde this summer having allegedly failed with an enormous January bid for the Sevlila defender.

Newcastle have ended up staying in the Premier League with plenty of room to spare after a superb second half of the season.

Eddie Howe has worked wonders at Newcastle but you can’t overlook the spending from PIF.

Newcastle brought in key January signings like Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Chris Wood during the January window.

Now safe from relegation and looking to progress, Newcastle could now make some big signings this summer – such as Kounde.

Newcastle United want Jules Kounde

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Newcastle are expected to be one of the main suitors for Seville star Kounde.

It’s claimed that Newcastle actually offered a whopping €70million (£59million) to sign Kounde during the January transfer window.

Newcastle were also heavily pursuing Kounde’s central defensive partner Diego Carlos in January.

That may have been with an idea to bring their superb partnership to St James’ Park, but it’s more likely that Newcastle wanted one or the other.

Chelsea have been chasing Kounde for a long time now whilst Mundo Deportivo state that Barcelona are attempting part-exchange deals to get the Frenchman.

That’s a pretty daunting task for Newcastle but ultimately the kind of transfer battles fans want to see that Magpies engage in.

Kounde, 23, has been branded a ‘total footballer’ in Spain and may be exactly what Newcastle are seeking.

The French international is just 5ft 11in tall, meaning he is far from the tallest centre back ever.

Yet Newcastle’s idea may be to have an ideal blend of Kounde – a quick, mobile, right-sided centre back who lacks height – and Dan Burn, a left-sided defender with a giant frame at 6ft 7in tall.

The pair could mesh together perfectly and help mask each other’s deficiencies.

This does feel like a very difficult deal for Newcastle to pull off but people said that about Bruno Guimaraes too.

In this new project at Newcastle, you just never know who could arrive.
