Arsenal are in the hunt for a new left back this summer in order to cover for Kieran Tierney – and Nuno Tavares looks set to join.
Sead Kolasinac is set to leave this summer, leaving the Gunners short of competition in that left back spot.
A number of players have been linked, including Ryan Bertrand, but it’s Tavares who now appears to be at the front of the queue.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Tavares
News of Arsenal wanting to sign Tavares broke on Sunday night as Fabrizio Romano stated that the Gunners were in contact with the defender’s representatives.
There is now an update to this situation as Romano now claims that the deal is ‘done’, with Arsenal paying €8million (£6.9million) plus add-ons.
Intriguingly, Romano noted that the move for Tavares started when Benfica wanted to sign Matteo Guendouzi from Arsenal.
A swap deal was discussed, but collapsed when Guendouzi made it clear he preferred to join Marseille instead. Still, Arsenal will sign Tavares for cash.

Tavares worth a punt for Arsenal
Benfica fans may be laughing at Arsenal for signing Tavares, but this seems like a calculated punt.
Tavares is only 21 and has great speed up the left flank, whilst he can also play at right back if needed.
At just shy of £7million, Arsenal aren’t giving up a lot to land Tavares. His role will be backup Tierney, and given his potential for the future too, it’s worth a punt on Tavares developing his game.
