Arsenal are looking to bring in another left back this summer, and Benfica’s Nuno Tavares is suddenly looking like a key target.

The Gunners have secured Kieran Tierney to a new contract, but with Sead Kolasinac having no future at the club, another option is needed.

Ryan Bertrand is one name mentioned, but it seems that Arsenal are looking for a younger alternative in Portuguese ace Tavares.

Arsenal’s interest in Tavares

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter late last night to state that Arsenal are now looking into a deal for Tavares, who is also wanted by Napoli and Lazio.

Romano did though add that Arsenal are calm about the situation and won’t be rushing into signing a backup left back for Tierney, but have made their first move by contacting Tavares’ agents.

Tavares has been branded ‘the future’ of Benfica and Portugal by Jorge Jesus, but after starting just seven league games last season, the 21-year-old is seemingly ready to move on.

How much will Tavares cost?

This seems to be up for debate. Romano’s tweet suggests that Benfica want around €15million to €17million (£13million to £14.5million) for Tavares.

A Bola claim that Tavares is close to joining an unknown English club, but only in a deal worth around €7million (£6million). Either way, it’s a huge drop from his release clause of €88million (£75million).

Arsenal may feel they can land a bargain here, though whether Tavares would be happy playing second fiddle to Tierney remains to be seen.
