Arsenal have tied Kieran Tierney down to a new contract, but they’re still chasing a new left back in Benfica’s Nuno Tavares.
Sead Kolasinac appears to be on his way out, meaning the Gunners need to find another left back in order to offer cover for Tierney.
Ryan Bertrand has been suggested, but it’s now claimed that Arsenal are making a move for Tavares instead.
Arsenal’s interest in Tavares
Fabrizio Romano reported late on Sunday night that Arsenal had initiated talks with Tavares’ representatives in an effort to strike a deal.
Despite Tavares having a release clause worth £75million in his deal, Benfica are thought to be willing to sell for around €17million – in the region of £14.5million.
The 21-year-old only started seven league games last season and Benfica now seem willing to let the speedy left back leave Lisbon.

Benfica fans have their say
Arsenal’s move for Tavares has of course attracted interest in Portugal, with Benfica fans seemingly bewildered at the idea of the Gunners signing him.
Benfica fans are begging for Arsenal to take Tavares, joking that they will cry with happiness if a deal is pulled off.
Others doubt that Tavares is better than Kolasinac right now, but do acknowledge that there is some potential for Arsenal to tap into moving forward.
