Celtic have now shelved their move to sign Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The Bhoys are in the market for new centre backs this summer, with Ange Postecoglou potentially needing two or three additions in that area of the pitch.
One prime target of late has been Starfelt, with Romano first reporting Celtic’s talks for the Swedish international on Wednesday evening.
The Scottish Sun then reported that Celtic were closing in on a deal to sign Starfelt, who was described as being ‘very interested’ in a move to Parkhead.
Starfelt was named in the Rubin Kazan team to face Khimki today, suggesting that a deal with Celtic wasn’t as close as hoped.
Romano now claims that Celtic have offered €5million (£4.3million) for Starfelt, but the ‘talks are not progressing’ because ‘Celtic have stepped down’.

It seems that the Bhoys have backed away from a deal for Starfelt and may look elsewhere for a new defender with many other names linked.
It’s added that Celtic are waiting to hear about Kristoffer Ajer’s future, maybe with the idea of keeping him instead of spending on Starfelt.
