According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt, with the fee believed to be around £4million.

Rumours linking Celtic with Starfelt first emerged on Tuesday evening as Fabrizio Romano claimed that talks had been opened.

The deal appears to be moving very quickly as it’s now stated that Celtic are closing in on a deal to bring Starfelt to Parkhead.

It’s stated that Celtic have launched their bid of £4million, and now hope to be given permission to finalise personal terms with the defender.

Starfelt is believed to be ‘very interested’ in signing for Celtic, with all signs pointing towards the 26-year-old becoming a Celtic player soon.

Starfelt only signed a deal with Rubin until 2024 earlier this year, but the Russian side are seemingly willing to let him make the move to Scotland.

Signed from IFK Goteborg in 2019, Starfelt has impressed in Russia and now has three caps for Sweden, but missed out on a spot at Euro 2020.

Celtic have decent history with Swedish players such as Henrik Larsson, Mikael Lustig and Johan Mjallby, and Starfelt now looks set to follow in their footsteps, bolstering Ange Postecoglou’s defensive options in the process.
