According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham target Marc Cucurella has now handed in a transfer request at Brighton.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spain international only arrived at the Amex Stadium last year, but the £50,000-a-week man already wants to leave after just one season with the Seagulls.

Antonio Conte is said to be keen on Cucurella, although Spurs face fierce competition from Manchester City.

The Citizens have already offered £30m for the left-back, although Brighton are demanding £50m.

Now, after Manchester City refused to go that high, Cucurella has taken things into his own hands by submitting a transfer request as he aims to force a move away from the south coast.

The 24-year-old made 39 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.

Romano adds that “difficult” negotiations are continuing between Manchester City and Brighton, with a final decision set to be made by the Seagulls shortly.

Tottenham can hijack Marc Cucurella move

In our view, Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Tottenham – has a golden chance to hijack this move.

As aforesaid, Manchester City are refusing to offer more than £30m as things stand, so Spurs have the opportunity to swoop in and make an offer closer to Brighton’s £50m valuation.

If the north Londoners do this, and Pep Guardiola fails to make a larger bid of his own, then we feel Tottenham have a great chance to bringing Cucurella to N17, where he will compete with Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon.

Paratici may have to do some convincing, however, as it has been said that the defender is very keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Ultimately, it all depends on Brighton, and whether they now decide to lower their asking price – keep an eye on the situation, as we are expecting more developments to happen shortly.
