According to The Athletic, Brighton are in talks with Marc Cucurella over a new contract, as Tottenham and Manchester City circle.

What’s the story?

Well, the Seagulls are aware of interest in the Spaniard, who they are open to selling for a sum of £50m – the same fee they received from Arsenal for Ben White last summer.

However, in the meantime, Brighton are looking to reward Cucurella for the form he showed last term, in what was his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Tottenham and Manchester City have sat up and taken notice of the 23-year-old after he made 39 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.

Cucurella still has four years remaining on the contract he signed last summer, when Brighton sealed a £15m deal to sign the left-back from Getafe.

Nevertheless, Brighton want to reward their No.3 for his performances, which led to Pep Guardiola making him a priority signing according to The Athletic.

Interestingly, Chelsea are also interested in signing Cucurella, as Barcelona target a move for Marcos Alonso.

Tottenham & Manchester City should pay the money

In our view, £50m is a fair asking price for Cucurella.

After all, Brighton have the Spaniard tied down to a long-term contract, so they can demand whatever they want to, although we think £50m is certainly a reasonable sum.

You may disagree, although if Antonio Conte or Guardiola meet the asking price, they’d be getting a left-back they can rely on for the next decade.

Cucurella has already proven he can shine in the Premier League, which is no easy thing for a 23-year-old to do in their first season in a new country.

With the coaching of Conte or Guardiola, he could even rise to become the best left-back in the Premier League.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as The Athletic believe Brighton won’t stand in Cucurella’s way if an acceptable offer is made.
