Celtic want to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, HITC understands.

Joe Hart is the number one goalkeeper for Celtic at the moment, but the former Manchester City star has already announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

And, sources have told HITC that Celtic already know the direction they want to go in. The defending Scottish Premiership champions are keen on securing the services of Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

Celtic have been tracking Kelleher for years and have been hugely impressed by the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper. The Hoops want him to become their new number one.

Caoimhin Kelleher is highly rated

Kelleher was outstanding for Liverpool against Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday. Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was impressed by his saves, while the goalkeeper’s teammate Virgil van Dijk described him as “world class”.

The goalkeeper’s performance in Liverpool’s win against Chelsea only highlighted that he is more than ready for number one duties – something that he won’t be getting anytime soon at Anfield, with Alisson cemented as the first-choice goalkeeper.

HITC revealed earlier this year that Liverpool were already looking at potential number two options to replace Kelleher, who they are ready to let leave.

Selling Kelleher as a homegrown product will also contribute to their Profit and Sustainability calculations.

Celtic are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 65 points from 27 matches. Brendan Rodgers’s side are two points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Rangers. The Hoops won in the league this past weekend.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table with 60 points from 26 matches, a point ahead of second-placed and defending champions Manchester City.
