Alan Shearer has given his verdict on the performance of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup.

The Newcastle United legend and BBC Sport was really impressed by the display produced by the 25-year-old.

So, what has Alan Shearer said about Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher? Let’s take a look.

Alan Shearer praises Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher vs Chelsea

Well, Liverpool beat Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday. Virgil van Dijk scored the only goal of the match in the 118th minute.

One of the best players in the match was Caoimhin Kelleher. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international started in goal because of injury to Alisson.

Kelleher is the second-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool, but against Chelsea, he played like the number one.

The goalkeeper kept the Chelsea attackers at bay and made a number of saves, including a “world-class” one in the first half.

Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher and Christopher Nkunku all were thwarted by the 25-year-old goalkeeper, and Newcastle United legend and BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer was impressed.

Shearer said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “What a result, what a performance. Kelleher brilliant in goal, Van Dijk towering at the back, all of the youngsters were brilliant when Klopp put them on. They all performed, Jurgen Klopp can be so proud of them.”

My View: Caoimhin Kelleher is best number 2 in Premier League

In my opinion, Caoimhin Kelleher is the best second-choice goalkeeper in Liverpool.

He is a very good player and is showing that he has what it takes to play week in and week out for the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

Alisson is world class and is the number one goalkeeper at Liverpool. When fit and available, the Brazil international plays for the Reds.

However, Kelleher is showing that he is good enough to come in for Alisson. He is only 25 now and could still develop and get better.
