One midfielder, who Liverpool are understood to be interested in, has opened the door to a potential move away from his current club this summer.

Liverpool are set to embark on a rebuild this summer with Jurgen Klopp departing the club after nine glorious years at Anfield, with former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot being chosen as the man to continue the German’s legacy.

Slot had been linked with other jobs but made it perfectly clear, in an interview last week, that he wanted to move to Anfield. HITC reported earlier this week that the Dutchman put pen to paper on a three year contract at the club.

The Dutch manager will have his own targets in mind and it seems that one of these potential signings has opened the door to a summer transfer.

Liverpool target opens up on move

Last week, HITC reported that Liverpool and Chelsea were in attendance to watch the Coppa Italia final between Atalanta and Juventus, with the Merseyside club keeping an eye on Teun Koopmeiners and Federico Chiesa.

Slot has had previous experience with Koopmeiners as the pair worked together during the 45-year-old’s time at AZ Alkmaar. Koopmeiners started against Bayer Leverkusen in the 3-0 Europa League final victory over the Bundesliga champions and the Dutchman showed his class throughout.

The 26-year-old has spoken on the record about his future, as per Fabrizio Romano, he said: “I’m only happy to enjoy this title with the fans, I’m focused on celebrating. Next season? I don’t know. We will see.”

Liverpool may face some fierce competition from Juventus, who Romano claims are keen on the midfielder and have him as one of their key summer targets.

Koopmeiners would cost in the fee of £50 million if Liverpool were to pursue a deal.

Midfield signing key

A new holding midfielder will be key for the Reds next season under a new manager.

Koopmeiners could certainly be the type of player they are looking for in that role and Atalanta, despite achieving Champions League qualification, could well sell the Dutchman at a reasonable price.

With Michael Edwards returning to Liverpool and heading up a new team, this summer promises to be an interesting one for Slot and for fans of the Reds.
