Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool drew with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, and Micah Richards has named the Anfield star who surprised him.
Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
One of the best players on the pitch was Wataru Endo. The Japan international defensive midfielder was a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park.
Endo frustrated Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The Liverpool star made the right interceptions, closed down space, made good recoveries and was an imposing figure in midfield.
Micah Richards praises Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo vs Manchester City
Former City right-back Micah Richards was following the match for Sky Sports, and he was hugely impressed with Endo.

Richards has admitted that he did not think that the Japan international would be as good as he has turned out to be.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described Endo as world class. Lucas Leiva has been impressed with the Japanese star as well.
Richards said about Endo on The Rest is Football podcast: “Endo in midfield, wow! When he came to Liverpool, I was thinking, okay, good experienced player, but I didn’t think he could get to the levels of that in terms of the intensity of the game.
“We know that the Bundesliga is back and forth, but I thought he was outstanding in the middle of the park yesterday, he really was.”
My View: Wataru Endo is growing as a player
In my opinion, Liverpool and Japan international defensive midfielder Wataru Endo is growing as a player.
Endo did not hit the ground running at Liverpool. It took the midfielder a while to get used to the intensity of the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp’s system.
The 31-year-old is now a very important player for Liverpool. He is a very reliable midfielder who can do a very good job for the Reds.
Endo, who joined Liverpool from German club VfB Stuttgart in the summer transfer window, has made 31 appearances for the Reds this season. He has scored two goals and given one assist in those games.
